In the third email of the chain, Satoshi thanked Adam Back for pointing him to Wei Dai’s b-money proposal. The historically load-bearing line — already cited as a self-statement in archive analysis — reads:
Thanks, I wasn’t aware of the b-money page, but my ideas start from exactly that point.
This sentence is one of the primary-source observations underpinning both the cypherpunk-independent-arrival analysis and the bitcoin-design-lineage analysis: Satoshi reached the design space independently and only learned of b-money via Adam Back’s referral the previous day.
The same email noted that Satoshi planned to contact Wei Dai directly to confirm the citation year — the message that would be sent the following day (see the 2008-08-22 Satoshi → Wei Dai email). b-money was subsequently added as reference [1] in the Bitcoin whitepaper.
