I have had no further problems since I ceased running a daily late evening scheduled operation consisting of a wipe of various folders containing temporary files using Eraser.

Whether this operation accounted for the crashes I don’t know, as Eraser has never had that effect before, and typically ignores any file it finds to be in use.
